Aliaune Thiam, aka Akon, est né au Sénégal où il a grandi avant de le quitter pour vivre aux Etats-Unis à l'âge de 7 ans. Il vit alors des moments difficiles et est même confronté à la prison, avant de remonter à la surface grâce à la musique. Son single Locked Up cartonne aux USA en 2004, il sort son premier album, Trouble.

De la prison à la liberté, une histoire en trois parties

Deux ans plus tard, il livre le disque Konvicted, réédité par la suite avec le single Sorry (Blame it on me). A deux reprises, le disque est certifié disque de platine aux Etats-Unis. En novembre 2008, il s'apprête à sortir une suite à son précédent album, elle est intitulée Freedom et comporte les singles Right Now et I'm So Paid en featuring avec le rappeur Lil Wayne
